I will not go into the setup of either of these two payment types--both are modules that need to be enabled, and in turn, they create Rules.
Rules governs much of the behavior of these payment types, and we can look at a few of the rules that help us to process the orders.
Looking at the rule (event, conditions, actions) that follow on the purchase of an Individual Membership will be enough to show the main concepts and include a demonstration of how a reminder is triggered for membership renewal and a notice is sent for membership expiration.
Fortunately, the purchase of a Conference Registration does not need to trigger any follow up in rules.
